Self Esteem, the Missing Link to Success

Low self esteem or the lack of it can be the one important ingredient that separates us for success and failure. It can hold us back from making progress in many parts of our lives. Without it, we can lack motivation to take the necessary steps to create positive opportunities in our lives.

You may feel that you are undeserving of having success and being happy. Many and more than you might imagine are guilty of committing unthinkable thing in our past. Deep down we know who and what kind of person we really are. We cannot imagine ourselves to be deserving of having good fortune. Let me assure you that is furthest from the truth. We all deserve a second chance and more if that what it take to create a person that is truly deserving of having the good life.

One of my favorite statements regarding myself is this, “I am a work in progress and each day I try to be a little better today than I was yesterday. Yesterday is the past and I can’t do anything about it except learn from my past behavior”. You don’t have to be the same person you were yesterday. You must decide to change the perception of yourself. Your mother wanted the best for you when you were a child. You were innocence then. Make her happy by giving her the son or daughter that she imagined you to be.  No one can do it for you, except you.

Being a self starter is another intricate part of having positive self esteem. Being a self starter means not waiting around for someone to tell you what to do. This is the first step and then making some kind of plan of action. I like to put it down of paper so I can have a visual image of what and how I want to accomplish my task. It is my visual roadmap to success and it must have some kind of time frame to give you a target date.

You might say to yourself, hey I don’t lack self esteem, I feel good about myself. You can look back over the last decades of your life as asked yourself this question. Am I any further along in my journey to success and have I made any progress in my development as a human being? If you haven’t made significant progress in these areas perhaps you need to reevaluate your plan for success. We can always get in a rut by doing the same thing over every day and not realized how much time has passed. All of a sudden, years have passed and we are no closer to finding why we were put on this earth. That’s a heavy statement and I hope it means something to you. Our time on earth is but a short time in the grand scheme of things. I hope you don’t want to just take up space. I would hope you would want to leave this earth a better place by your present. You can start by simply stating to yourself and other that you and your life has meaning and value. Put a Hugh price on it for you are unique and there is not another person like you on this earth.

Every one of us has special talents. I envy people that early in life, knew what they want to become. I didn’t know what I wanted to be until I was in my 40’s. I wanted to try everything. Decide what you want to do and peruse it with passion. Forget the fact that you think you decided too late in life. With three or four years of focus you can be an expert in what ever endeavor you choose. Here is another way to decide what to do. Select something that you find easy to do, and that others find it hard to do.

First of all “what is success”? It can be defined as many things for many people and there can be many different degree of success. If you are happy with your definition of success, then it’s right for you. But if you are lacking in self esteem perhaps you are not setting your bar high enough and consequently you are missing out on many good things in your life.

The acquisition of money in most cases has nothing to do with success. Any job and salary will do if it meets your everyday needs. Perhaps you want a better job, to meet your life partner or find some since of peace thru involvement with a church. Everyone needs to feel that they belong and have self worth to feel good about themselves. Without this you can feel lonely, isolated and cut off from the rest of world. It’s not healthy to be in a situation when you feel the world is passing you by. Should you begin to feel this way, your self worth begins to plummets and one can begin to think about harmful and negatives option to solve their problem. This is when you need to summon up the courage and become a self starter and make a plan of action. You may not know what to do or what action to take, but it can be as simple as seeking out someone you trust and asking for council. Together you can then form your own personal roadmap to get you pointed in the right direction. Success can be just over the hill.   It will not come to you, YOU WILL HAVE TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.
