Alcohol is the single must destructive Drug on the planet. Every year it kills more people and destroys more lives than all other drugs combined and the end is not in sight. It’s an accepted drug by society and it widespread use is the reason that it has such a devastating impact on society. There are hundred of the incidences every day in the newspaper and television reporting about the alcohol and drug problem in every city in our country and around the world.
Are we missing the obvious salutation? Whenever I see a tragic story of people loosing life or property in alcohol related accident, we immediately begin focus on how many DWI’s he or she had in the past. We are in amazement about why this person in not in prison or do jail time. We blame the judicial system, and whine that he has fallen thru the cracks and is free to continue drinking and driving to put society at risk.
It was amazing to me that everyone seemed blind to the fact, that if we rid society of booze, guns and cigarettes that we could save hundreds of thousand of lives a year. It was like these three elements were a part of the earth like the Mississippi River or the Grand Canyon that God created. They have become a fixture in society that we consider them too untouchable. We cannot solve our problems with them in place. They were not here when Christ was born so why are they here today? Well, we know the answer to that, money. The revenue from the products will power the media and print and influences our lives every day.
When someone is killed by a drunk driver, we are quick to dismiss by saying he or she had too much to drink. Too often we look for someone to blame like the bartender at the local tavern, or they were having family problems. There can be a hundreds of other places to put the blame. But not one time will they mention, if they didn’t have access to the alcohol this tragedy wouldn’t have happen. WHY NOT OUTLAW THE MANUFACTURING AND DISTRIBUTION OF ALCOHOL? I’m amazed that MADD, mothers against drunk driver organization has not step forwarded to champion this solution. They are such a large and respected organization. Who wouldn’t take seriously millions of mothers who have lost love ones to drunk driver.
I found it amazing when people died as a result of alcohol related causes from an automobile accident or illnesses from liver and kidney failures that surviving member never went after the beer and liquor manufactures and sue for compensation. It was stated in a recent newspaper article that for years, big tobacco companies swore they’d never ever utter the “s-word.” Settlements of lawsuits over illnesses related to smoking were absolutely unthinkable. The general public is coming after the tobacco companies in a big way. Facing major’s trials and litigation that could bankrupt the $50 billion-a-year industry, the companies are, for the first time, publicly expressing interest in making a deal. Texas alone is a key player in the tobacco litigation when it sued the industry a few years ago. Texas is seeking reimbursement of $14 billion in Medicaid expenses for smoking-related illnesses over more than four decades. The chief executive officers of the nation’s top three cigarette manufactures have hinted they’d consider a settlement if they would receive a guarantee they could continue to sell their products without restrictive federal Food and Drug Administration regulation. In other words, they wanted to pay someone off, so they could continue to kill Americans’ with their products for years to come. It’s only a mater of time before some hotshot lawyer files a class action suit against the beer and liquor industries.
WHY DON’T WE GO AFTER THE BEVERAGE INDUSTRY? (Budweiser, Coors, Miller, Jack Daniels and all others liquor manufacturing) We don’t hesitate to go after the pharmaceutical company if he or she was on some type of drug that would cause erratic behavior when driving. I know there is a powerful lot of money behind these people, so are they untouchable? Another monster industry (Tobacco) is now beginning to pay for their destruction of human lives. Does no one see the obvious or are we too scared?
